Roman Shade Types

Updated: Apr 28, 2021

Soft shades, such as a roman, are a beautiful alternative to a hard window treatment. They have the function of a hard shade, but you are able to add softness, texture, and pattern to truly customize your space and the style of design. Roman shades are among the most sought after treatments for their classic style. Also understand their price point is closer to those of a drape as you will be working with a custom fabric. Roman shades have the option offering you a cordless or even motorized lift as well.

There are different types of roman shades each with a unique look and function.

Flat Roman Shade

Features

  • Shade is flat when completely lowered

  • Requires the least amount of stacking space for soft shades

  • Most popular shade style as it showcases any fabric (patterned or solid) perfectly

  • Creates crisp folds with little need of dressing when raise and lowered

  • Has dimension on face of shade when completely lowered

Hobbled Roman Shade

Features

  • Suggested for outside mount only

  • Soft rounded hem can repeat if shade is wider than 54”

  • Inside or outside mount options

  • Light diffusing or a liner maybe added for privacy
